Comic Art

The event has been organised by Manilva's Cultural Department in collaboration with the Ateneo de Algeciras cultural association.

Manilva will be celebrating the I Comic Festival this weekend. From Thursday, 18th to Sunday 21st March comic fans will treated to four days of exhibitions, talks and film screenings.

Some of the world's best cartoonists and comic artists will be attending including San Roque's Carlos Pacheco who will be presenting the inaugural lecture on the 18th March at 8 pm. Joining Carlos during the festival will be Jesus Barony, Jesus Merino, Juanjo Ryp, Victor Jerez, Shiroi Ayame Manga artist and local resident and Warhammer expert, Daniel Pro.
A packed programme of events will be held in the Salon de Plenos, next to the Local Police Station in Manilva. The programme includes a wide range of activities related to the world of comics and superheroes, among which are conferences, exhibitions, film screenings and workshops.

 

Programme

 

Thursday, 18th March

Visit to local schools during the morning by Festival director Juan Emilio Rios and comic artist Jesús Barony.

7.30 pm. Official inauguration of the Festival

8.00 pm. Inaugural lecture by Carlos Pacheco, considered one of the world's best cartoonists.

 

Friday, 19th March

5.00 pm. Inauguration of the exhibition of the works of Jesús Merino, courtesy of the Algeciras Youth Department and Antonio Garrido "Garry", director of Kristal magazine.

5.30 pm. Opening of stands specialising in comics and manga.

6.00 pm. Lecture "The World of Manga" by Ayame Shiroi.

7.00 pm. Presentation by comic authors Jesús Barony y Antonio Rojo.

8.30 pm. Screening of the film "La muerte de la masa" (The Death of the Incredible Hulk).

 

Saturday, 20th March

11.00 am. Warhammer Workshop throughout the day directed by local artist Daniel Pro.

11.30 am. Superhero Poetry presented by Juan Emilio Ríos, Carmen Sánchez and César Alfonso.

12 noon. Homage to the comic magazines “Cimmeria” and “Kristal” with the magazine directors Jesús Barony and Antonio Garrido.

12.30 pm. Víctor Jerez will present a live superhero drawing session.

1.00 pm. “The Alternative and Independent Comic”. Conference presented by Juan del Águila.

1.30 pm. Screening of the film "Sin City"

5.00 pm. Warhammer workshop.

5.30 pm. Conference - "The Comic Translated to Film" by Ángel Gómez.

7.00 pm. Round Table with the authors Jesús Merino, who works for US comic giant Marvel and Juanjo Ryp, the artist responsible for Robocop throughout the world mundo. At the end of the session there will be a chance to meet the authors and obtain signed copies.

8.30 pm. Screening of the film "El Castigador 2” (The Punisher 2).

 

Sunday, 21st March

11.30 am. Projection of the film “X-Men. Los orígenes de Lobezno” (X-Men Origins: Wolverine).

1.00 pm. Meet the authors.

2.00 pm. Closing ceremony.

The ASABAM music association, with the help of ACEMCE, The Resident newspaper and various friends of the Municipality invite you to join them in celebrating Andalucía’s annual festival at the Lola's Showbar, in Plaza Ginebra, San Luís de Sabinillas, with the “Amigos de la Música” Choir.
Along with the Himno de Andalucía (Andalucía Anthem) they will perform a varied choral repertoire.

American Halloween - Hollywood style

Everyone joined in the fun as the Estepona/Sotogrande Chapter of The American Club Costa Del Sol enjoyed American Halloween - Hollywood Style. Some 50 Members came in fancy dress as Hollywood Stars of Past & Present.  The venue was filled to capacity by Members & Guests who came from near and far to enjoy welcoming cava, glamorous "Hollywood" company, delicous food, & Alberto's music that kept us dancing through the night.
