Estepona's Foreign Residents Department held a meeting on Wednesday, 16th February, with various groups and associations representing local foreign residents, the aim of which was to begin organising this year's Foreign Residents Days.
The festival provides a perfect opportunity for the various nationalities which make up Estepona's multicultural community to demonstrate their cultural, gastronomic and musical traditions. Hosting the meeting was Silvia Cabrera, Councillor for Culture and Foreign Residents, Francine Pompas, head of department, with Beli Muñoz, representing the Union (Mancomunidad) of Western Costa del Sol Municipalities (see editorial) also attending. The date for this year's festival has been set as Sunday, 18th April, from 12 noon to 7 pm in Estepona's Palacio de Congresos. Whilst this was a preliminary meeting, a decision was made by those attending, that given the dire financial situation in the Town Hall, and as an extraordinary measure, that this year those clubs, organisations, and national representatives participating should pay a small contribution of around €25 per stand towards the fixed costs of staging the festival. If you would like to get involved in this year's festival the organisers are looking particularly for people to provide entertainment, they are also appealing for sponsorship, either from local businesses or other organisations. For more information or if you wish to get involved, then contact Francine on 952 809 031 or email
