Casares council’s Tendering Committee met recently to approve the granting of a concession for the construction and operation of a beach club adjacent to the Playa Piedra Paloma beach, close to the Salt Tower.

With the death toll rising daily as a result of last month's earthquake in Haiti, some of the main priorities now are to rebuild houses, schools, roads, and other infrastructure. The quake destroyed thousands of homes, leaving some 1,200,000 people homeless.

In a recent ceremony, the Mayoress of Casares, Antonia Morera, and Luis Luengo, the Director General of GIESE, the State Department for Security and Infrastructure, signed over the new building which will house the Guardia Civil station and quarters. This completes a process begun in 2002 by the previous Mayor of Casares, Juan Sanchez, who was also present at the ceremony, which saw GIESE providing a grant of 665,000 euros towards the project. For its part the local authorities in Casares provided the land and 300,000 euros to create a new facility for the Civil Guard in Casares. The installation comprises of two buildings in a secure compound, one being the personal quarters for the Guardia Civil officers and their families with the other being offices. Work is expected to begin soon to equip the building after which the installation will become fully operation providing Casares with a permanent Guardia Civil presence for the first time in over 20 years. |

In a letter the council explained that the fire caused severe damage to some 600 hectares (1,500 acres) in the Monte el Pinar area of the Sierra Bermeja. They point out that the remains of dead trees and shrubs could pose a focus for new fires, therefore clearance and replanting is a priority in the worst affected areas.

With the publication in the Province's Official Gazette (BOP) of the entry requirements, Casares launches the eighth edition of its Blas Infante Awards: Casares in Solidarity for which the municipality has allocated 91,000 euros in grants: 70% for international projects and 30% for educational development in Andalucia and Spain.

Everyone joined in the fun as the Estepona/Sotogrande Chapter of The American Club Costa Del Sol enjoyed American Halloween - Hollywood Style. Some 50 Members came in fancy dress as Hollywood Stars of Past & Present. The venue was filled to capacity by Members & Guests who came from near and far to enjoy welcoming cava, glamorous "Hollywood" company, delicous food, & Alberto's music that kept us dancing through the night.
